PENALTIES AND REPLACEMENT CHARGES
Replacement costs apply for the overdue or non-return of library items. Costs vary depending on the type of item (such as laptop or books), whether the item is required for courses (such as 14 day loans), and the number of items overdue or not returned.

Items are classed as ‘overdue’ 28 days after their due date.

Books
When the replacement cost for overdue or non-return of library books exceed $500, you may be required to pay this cost.

Laptops
The full replacement cost may apply for non-return or damage to library laptops. The current replacement cost is $1000, plus GST.

Can I graduate or access my results if I have a library penalty?
If you have replacement costs over $500 on your library account, a sanction will be placed on your student record until payment is received or item/s returned. You will not be able to re-enrol, access your results, or graduate until the sanction is removed.

I've received an invoice. How can I pay?
The electronic invoice contains a link to the University payment system. Please note that payment cannot be made in-library.

I've received an invoice, but I’ve already returned the item. Help!
Please email library.overdues@vu.edu.au. Please ensure that you include the following information: your full name, the title of the returned items, the campus that you returned the items to and the date, and the invoice number (found at the top of your invoice).

I have a question about a replacement charge. Who do I contact?
Any questions about a replacement charge, please email library.overdues@vu.edu.au. Please note that library fines are managed centrally; therefore, in-library and phone support is not available.
